CHRISTY RIOPEL is also back for her 3^rd time teaching on Crop and Cruise where she is known for taking you on an artistic journey like no other!! From cards and layouts to mixed media and home decor, Christy does it all!!

She not only enlightens you with more tricks and techniques than you thought existed, but thoroughly entertains you as she pushes the boundaries of creativity! Christy’s background in art and design mean her classes leave you inspired, infused with potential and simply wanting more!!

As a contributing writer for Canadian Scrapbooker Magazine and co-owner for MondayNightClass.ca, Christy’s art has been widely published and enjoyed across the country including numerous appearances on Breakfast Television!!

She has also taught internationally at CHA, Scrapfest, Camp Croppin' and The Great Canadian Scrapbook Carnivals and for companies like Basic Grey, Westcott, myStampBOX and Upsy Daisy!! Her favourite part is meeting people who share a love for creating.

Besides crafting, Christy has become a quick study in photography and has some stunning shots from a recent trip to China!

Christy lives in Calgary where she is mom to two beautiful girls, wife to the most patient man in the world and caretaker to two dachshunds who all together give her much joy and plenty of antics to scrapbook!!

JILL HILDEBRAND is back by popular demand for her 3^rd Crop and Cruise!! This smalltown, farm-girl is not only profoundly creative, but comes with a contagious personality and high energy to boot!!

She is a widely published scrapbook artist who has taught at numerous events throughout Canada and USA and is best known for her colourful and edgy layouts. In Jill’s classes she encourages scrappers to get CRAZY and become excited about the products in front of them believing there are “No Mistakes – Only Unexpected Creations” in the Life Art we are creating.

Jill is currently a design team member for myStampBOX and Nikki Sivils Scrapbooker. Her work has been featured in Canadian Scrapbooker Magazine and her keen eye in photography portrays a wildly fun passion for life and will most definitely rub off on you in Hawaii!!

As the wife of a grain farmer in Manitoba, Jill stays busy being a SAHM to three children and working as a substitute teacher. In any spare time she happens to find, she will get “lost” in home decorating, travelling and watching NBA games with her family… oh and folding laundry!!!!

Crop and Cruise
the Caribbean 2010 has sailed and we are excited to share the experience with you!! It's soooo hard to put the experience of this event into words, but with pictures, maybe you will get even a glimpse into why this truly is the ultimate scrapbooking and photography vacation for Canadians...

This is what greeted us in Texas... blue skies and palm trees!!! We did an exclusive shopping excursion just for our Crop and Cruise attendees... rented a bus and our first stop was an infamous scrapbook store in Houston called By Design Scrapbook Boutique...

As you can see, there was soooooo much eye candy and goodies for our shopping pleasure!!! From there we did a quick pit stop at a local mall and then ended up at the Kemah Boardwalk...

Later that evening, we had a surprise special guest for our group!!!! I saw these stunning beach photos awhile ago and immediately hunted down the photographer...

Candra George from My Creative Reality

who just so happens to live in Houston!!!!

Check out this dress... Candra made it and then sprayed it with tons of Glimmer Mist for this special photo shoot at the beach.... now you see why I was captivated!!!!

So over the months I've been chatting with Candra and although she was supposed to be in Africa at the time of the cruise, she ended up being able to join us in Houston and present some of her best photo tips!!! It was such a pleasure and special treat... thanks SOOOO much Candra!!!

The next day we boarded our Carnival Conquest cruise ship!!!

The two ends of the boat had swimming pools and entertainment...

this end was a definitely popular one with a waterslide and jumbo-tron TV that played even at night...

This end of the ship was adults only... spent some fabulous time in the hot tubs!!

The food was amazing!!! Here is a picture of my personal "daily weakness"... a hot melting chocolate cake with butter pecan ice cream!!!

Our Crop and Cruise group of scrapbookers were AMAZING!!! It's interesting how each event has it's own personality of croppers!! These girls knew how to PARTY!!!!!!

Our first evening on board had our group taking over the dance floor... we were having so much fun that many others joined in!!!

And this is only the beginning!!!! Be sure to come back throughout the next several days as we share more about our Crop and Cruise scrapbooking, photography, sunset photos, instructors, projects, friendships, port fun and epic photo shots with Canadian Scrapbooker Magazines!! Just imagine!!!!

So I just spent a ton of time on the Purple Onion Designs BLOG to check out what is in store and found some great inspiration!!!

This layout using Purple Onion stamps was created by Anam Stubbington (yeah for yet another amazingly talented Canadian!!!!) The colours made me think of the beautiful blue skies and oceans we're going to see along with the lush green palm trees :)

Kiki is the owner and graphic designer for Kiki Art, one of Canada's newest companies! Kiki has been a crafter all her life from making paper-mache puppets with her dad to cake decorations with her mom and painting, drawing and countless other forms of art in between. She discovered scrapbooking as an exchange student in Kansas 20 years ago and hasn't stopped playing with papers ever since!

Kiki's scrapbooking style depends on her mood and the music playing in the background... sometimes clean and simple and others busy and bright, but always using anything she can get her hands on to add volume and texture! She loves layouts, mini-albums, home decor and altered objects of all sorts!

It's official!! Crop and Cruise has a "sister" event called Crop Tropical that is designed for those who prefer an all-inclusive resort instead of a boat!

We will be heading to Cancun, Mexico in February 2010 and staying at the Grand Oasis Resort where all food, all drinks, entertainment, gratuities and taxes are all included!!

This event is also especially designed for husbands (golf is FREE) and families (children 12 and under stay for FREE).

REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN and after only one weekend have 25% of our spots spoken for!! So we think we might need to secure some more as it looks like it might turn into quite the party!!

With our Crop and Cruise Scrapbooking Cruise for Canadians having an emphasis on photography, it's no wonder we have some AMAZING photos that were submitted to our friendly photo contest!!! And now we need your help to VOTE ON A WINNER (anyone can vote... those on the cruise and those dreaming about the next one in the Fall of 2010)!!

We tried to narrow it down to the top 5, but just couldn't!!! So you have 11 different photos to vote on!! All were taken during our February 2009 Crop and Cruise Ultimate Scrapbooking Cruise Vacation by a wide assortment of attendees (we do not know the "owners" of these photos). The top two winners will each receive a $25 gift card to www.Vistek.ca to help meet your photography cravings!!

Let's begin!

1. St. Thomas - love this beautiful view of St. Thomas including the stunning blue waters, green islands and our cruise ship parked at port! Take us back there!!!

2. Sandals - what else says "tropical vacation" better than a pair of empty sandals on the beach!! Love the funky angle and perspective captured!

3. Miami Sunset - one of my favourite life experiences to capture on "film"... a beautiful sunset!! Love the city scape silhouette and rich colours with the big sun slowly dipping down!!

4. Laughing in the Waves - does this just not say it ALL!!! Fun, friends and a HOT time playing together on a tropical vacation!! Great job capturing the waves and faces at just the right moment!!

5. Karaoke - indoor photos are always a challenge, but this one POPS with colour, motion and hilarious memories all encapsulated in one shot! It's like we can still hear them singing!!!

6. Iguana - I know how hard it is to capture critters and this photo is not only up close and personal, but get a look at the intricate details that jump out from his eyes to his scales!!

7. Hammocks - okay, maybe it's because I love relaxing in a hammock, but totally love the funky angle of this one and the very inviting message... come relax, lie back and enjoy!!!

8. Flamingo on Beach - LOVE LOVE LOVE it when I see people having FUN with photography! Think this pink flamingo with our cruise ship in the background is oh so creative!

9. Feet in Sand - this "anonymous" shot speaks volumes not only about our vacation, but life in general... enjoy the journey... one step at a time! Great composition (rule of thirds)!

10. Circle of Friends - this photo makes me happy and proud... oh so happy to see the awesome friendships that developed over the course of the cruise and oh so proud to see how creative everyone was with coming up with new ways to capture one another!! Cool perspective!!

11. Blue Waters - there is just something about the calm, tropical blue waters that is perfectly inviting!! This photo has great composition and very simply just makes me wish I was back there dangling my toes in the ocean!!

Hi Everyone!!! Just Jill checking in to see how everything is going. Yes....I've been following the Crop and Cruise Blog and have been itching to post again, however, other things have gotten in the way. I'm just getting over a nasty cold (head, nose, fever, etc.) and hoping & praying that my kids don't get it from me. Anticipating getting my scrap-space back in working condition, as we JUST finished some huge renos on our house (main floor) and my office is sitting in piles in our back upstairs bedroom. I should really post a before / after photo on this one 'cuz you will not believe it after I get everything back to working condition. I'm soooooo excited!!!!

Although I have NOT started working on my cruise album yet (I did a HUGE 12x12 album for the 2007 Crop and Cruise -- over achieving, I guess), I am looking forward to getting my paws on all that Luxe paper and the Prima Build-a-Book project that Trisha gave all of us. I know.....pattern paper can be scarey for some of you but, believe me, I am sooooooo excited to create something with all of it and show you that it doesn't need to be a project you sweat over -- Trisha's album ws gorgeous!!!! I'm addicted to PP (the first step is admitting it, I know), so I will share what I create with you at a later date. {check Leica's out on her blog}.

So.......wanted to share some pics of some layouts that I've created lately with the Making Memories Kit we all got from Deanna on the cruise. I added a few more MM products to the kit & some Riff Raff Designs images. Other than that, everything is Making Memories -- love it!!!!! I simply took the kit (baggie in hand) to my basement -- away from my scrap-space -- so that I would ONLY USE products from the kit. It was a bit of a challenge -- not being able to go into my office and pick my latest & greatest from other companies, slapping some paint on whenever I wanted, grabbing whatever I wanted from my embellishment muffin tins and stapling it on (you all know me by now!!!!) -- but I actually stayed within my rules and kept the layouts to Making Memories & Riff Raff. Yeah!!!!!!

What is a Canadian layout? In this case, it is one made from products from some fabulous CANADIAN companies!!! Like this one from Kelly Panacci and Sandylion designed by Kathy Thompson Laffoley!
Bisous (pronounced "beezoo") has a most amazing line of PDQ papers... "pretty darn quick" and that they are!! I created these next 3 layouts in about 10 minutes each!! They are pre-designed papers where all you really have to do is add photos (you can still add a little extra if you really want to... I added in some American Crafts Thickers and Prima flowers and bling!)

And I really like their PDQ journalling pads!! What an awesome way to quickly add the story behind the layout!!

First, one of the most widely known amazing companies... Making Memories! This layout was created using Marvy circle punches and the Making Memories "Paperie" line.

Next is Upsy Daisy and we totally LOVE this Canadian company (and the ladies behind it are simply delightful!!) How cool is that!!!And then I'll end today with a couple favourite sunset shots... how much fun to capture these together with several of you on deck 13!!! wow wow wow!!!!cruising is the most fun ever!

okay, cruising is the life. The following post is going to be from my perspective (Leica) as everyone has so many stories to share with you!!!! A little teaser...

I will tell you a little about it as I sit with Jim in our hotel lounge watching the Las Vegas Nascar race. (we are race fans, and so glad to be sitting and chillaxing!) we spent the day touring around Miami, South Beach, Fort Lauderdale. It is a zoo. Spring Break has started and this state has been invaded by young people...EVERYWHERE.

so we started out boarding the cruise in Miami, and we sat on the boat looking at the sites. Everything in Florida is blue, beautiful and warm!!!! recognize this road??? watch CSI Miami? after the cruise Jim and I were let into this security area (I think the security guard didn't feel like working or must have thought we were famous (LOL!!!!)cause he lifted the security gate and waved us through. so of course we went in to look at the multi million dollar houses and yachts. We were looking everywhere for Horatio and his new crime scene.

anyways, this skyline was really neat. this is the part in the ocean where the cruise ships turn around. We had Jackie Ludlage, her mom & dad, Katharina Doyle and Deanna & Geordie Hutchinson with us as all side by side on our balconies enjoying the departure as we left port we all loved visiting together as we watched the land get farther and farther away. such a great experience with friends. I highly recommend it to EVERYONE!!!!! look closely at the photo below, do you see the building that has one whole floor that you can see through?? how cool is that? There are lot's of buildings down here like that.

of course where do farm girls go for shore excursions?? well we go quadding of course!!! can't take us too far from the farm...BUT as I make a little fun about ourselves. WE HAD SOOOOO MUCH FUN!!!!!! I definitely have about 30 pictures from this excursion!!!! LOL! but it was priceless. IT was so unique because the kids all come out to slap our hands as we drive by. they are fascinated about the tourists. however, this is not always a good thing as in Samana, Dominican Republic that we did this at, the kids skip school in hopes of getting money from the tourists. sad, education is sooo important.

we saw a waterfall, the beach, (quadding on the beach was absolutely fun, I would love to do that everytime I travel anywhere from now on. Are you in???

Look at Miss Jill, looking sexy

Katharina Doyle (Canadian Scrapbooker Magazine publisher) took this photo. She has a brand new Olympus Camera that will "seam" together your photos so you can have a panoramic photo that you don't have to edit when you get home, it does itself on the camera in seconds. Pretty darn awesome! This is a photo of St. Thomas, the U.S. Virgin Islands. We took a fabulous tour here with a group of about 16 of us. FUN FUN! Pretty island, with lot's of places to buy bling. however, if you get a good tour guide you can see the best of what the island has to offer.

In Tortola (british virgin islands) we hired the most awesomest local to just drive us around. we saw the whole island and loved the sites! on one of the walls going down to the beach was a wall full of murals. absolutely stunning. this is just one of the 20+ photos.

In all the ports it was like a race to the pier. Cruise ships were always everywhere. and if you didn't get there in time you had to tender in on little boats, which wasn't that bad, kinda fun actually. so at Tortola, this ship pulled up beside us.how cool of a photo is this???

I don't know why but I loved taking different pics of our ship from all angles. I guess it will never get old. the exotic feel of cruising, the life, (you HAVE to join us in 2010!!!!)

...my heart is pumping, my bags are packed and I am walking out the door. Just said 'good-bye' to the kids & hubby. Can't believe it's here already and we are all gonna be partying together really -- REALLY -- soon. so the countdown is here. we leave in 2 days. can't wait. So I was reminiscing about our fabulous companies. we are blessed to have such fabulous support. so I thought I'd show you a few of my favourite layouts I've done in the past few years with some of our sponsors product. Look for new stuff after the cruise, we will have lot's to show. until then...

the above layout is one of my favourite ever. So simple, showcasing the awesome Hambly. LOVE the teal circles!!!! Then I added a little Luxe jotters for my journaling, their rub ons for decoration and obviously the fabulous Prism cardstock!

this layout, I spritzed and sprayed, multi colours of Glimmer Mist all over this layout. I used Prima felt for a border and loads of their flowers, Rose Moka papers layered and layered. Of course Clearsnap Colorbox ink!love that goodness.

here is one full of Luxe patterned papers, ribbons, letter stickers and Prima flowers. (see a habit???)

This one I did for Basic Grey's website a few years ago. I loved it. the picture is so full of fabulous memories. Basic Grey patterned paper & chipboard. Making Memories rub ons. They are still my #1 rub on ever made. Ranger glossy accents. great product!

This is an assignment I did for the Canadian Scrapbooker Magazine "all about me". Lots of Prima flowers. Ranger alcohol inks.

this one is so fun! A mix of Hambly transparencies that go with any product line. In this case a2z. but the Luxe rub ons again.

This one is created with all different colours of Clearsnap Colorbox Ink, the Scor-It board, Gelatins fabulous stamps. you will get to play with these on the ship!!!!!! yummy!

This one I did for Stampin Up! It started out as a plain white sheet of paper, I used their stamps to layer and create a background.

The Scenic Route paper is fabulous!!! They always have such great stuff. I also loved using American Crafts thickers for the title. such clear, well made alphabet stickers.

Yup--I'm here to say Bon Voyage to everyone and safe travels to Florida!

Hubby and I are out of here very early Tuesday morning (like 4am early!) and off to Miami. We are planning on spending a couple of days touring the Keys before hooking up with you all! I'm super excited to meet everyone and get to PLAY with you all soon!

Before I leave I thought I'd share one of my CRATE PAPER cards with you! Countdown is well upon us--I leave on Tuesday!! Woohoo!

I just wanted to pop in and share some terrific news with all of you croppers!

As you all know from my previous post--I will be bringing along 2 SLICE MACHINES from Making Memories to share, use and demo during the crop nights. This is a fantastic opportunity for you to get your hands on this amazing machine and actually die cut your heart out!

okay let's get done to the nitty gritty. This is exactly how I pack for events when I was pregnant (why did I say pregnant? because you CANNOT carry too much due to injuring your baby, so you have to pack much wiser. I got good at this since I seemed to be pregnant non stop for the last 5 years. LOL!!!)

I sit down and think, how many layouts do I realistically do on an average night of hanging with my friends? Be true to yourself. If you only do 4-5 , don't plan for 20 a night cause the cruise ship does offer LOT'S of fun stuff to tantalize you, WE are going to offer lot's of fun extras to do. you re going to want to mingle, laugh, go on adventures. So I look at my pictures that i want to get done. Pick ones that will keep you really interested in scrapbooking. if you always scrapbook chronologically maybe spice it up by doing some layouts that are from recent photos in between your older ones. This will keep your interest as well as giving you some recent memories to reflect upon, and new family photos to share with your new friends on the boat...everyone wants to talk and get to know their neighbors, whether it is chatting about your kids, husband, friends, pets, work, etc. Then I take those pictures, go to my patterned paper stash, pick papers I would probably use with those pictures. I do give myself a selection incase, but I DO NOT take 10-15 pages I might use. I take maybe 3-4. Then I go to my cardstock stash and pick my staples. black, brown, white and the a few extra for choice. I especially bring any "colours" that really match my photos. Then I go to the "embellishment" area. I pick out a few, but I DO NOT take too many of these. Cause I may need one 5 letter word of chipboard letters, and end up taking 2-3 different packages of chipboard letters. NOW I have just packed way too much. Instead take alphabets like " American Crafts thickers." They provide lot's of choice for less weight and bulkiness in the suitcase. Remember it is all about the bulk. do NOT bring bulk. I find that maybe I didn't bring something that I know would've been good on the page. I flip the page over and write myself a note, then I add it and finish the page when I get home. I don't ever take my albums, they for one could get wrecked, and 2 they are HEAVY! So I plan paper holders to hold my finished results.

So quick summary of what I said:

plan exact photos you'd like to accomplish, and then bring a few extras.
pick out your favourite patterned papers and cardstock , and then bring a FEW extras
bring a few coordinating embellishments, especially things that take less space and weight. maybe use stickers, rub ons, bling versus chipboard, acrylic, metal. or be select on what you bring
if you want to bring ribbon, ribbon maybe 14" of each colour, DON"T bring entire rolls. UNLESS you are making mini albums where you will use that ribbon throughout. I scrap pretty intensely and I have NEVER used a whole roll at a crop before.
bring essentials like black/brown markers for journaling, your favourite cannot live without adhesive, but remember we have a huge Diamond level adhesive sponsor, so just keep that in mind...

Things I like to share between friends:

acrylic blocks
crop a diles
staplers
ink colours
stamp sets
multi coloured watercolours, pencil crayons, gel pens, journaling pens in other colours
slice machines
cricuts, etc
magazines/idea books
embossing guns/powder

items that will be available for use in classes & crops:

acrylic stamp sets (even more from other companies than what I am bringing!!!!)
a few acrylic blocks

there is probably more, if you think of any please add to this list. Just keep in mind, you probably will not be using these items at all times, so why not share?

JUST KEEP THIS IN MIND, DO NOT TAKE ANY GLUES, SCISSORS ON CARRY ON, THEY WILL BE TAKEN AWAY!!!! I SPEAK FROM EXPERIENCE!!!!

Leica here.... are you guys getting excited???? I just came back from my brothers wedding in Hawaii, it was absolutely fabulous. But it did put me back in check for airline rules. They really are cracking down on weight guys,. so please please don't bring the "extras". I know it is tempting, because that is how you scrap at home, but for real, the charges are pretty intense if you are overweight. so here is a few hints for you so that you feel more reassured that we are really providing the best experience as possible. So I thought I would tell you a few things that I will be using in my classes that I would love to lend you!

This is just a few things I can think of, I know the fabulous Jill has treats up both sleeves for the crop nights too!!!! So here's a little more about my optional classes:

My " Let's make you the designer" class is very hands on using a range of different stamps from lot's of companies, having an assortment of stamps, such as flowers, abstract pictures, alphabets, I'm sure there is something that will meet your scrapbook needs. In this class we will start with totally white canvases, then we will go through lot's of different techniques on how to apply ink to create the background colours. Using many different stamps of your choices we will layer them over the background, learnng how to determine which ones should be in prominent colours and which should be subtle detail in the background. Taking the same stamps we will create embellishments that we will "colour" with mica pigment colours. This creates more intensity in the designs. When we are ready to assemble the project the real fun will begin. Break out those Scor-It boards! Have you ever tried these? Well I am going to show you ways to use them, no card making here, all creative design!!!! Then let's do some distressing, raising elements, this class is totally TECHNIQUES!!!!!Come create your own custom mats for photos. This whole project will be an extnsion of you. I guarantee that no 2 will look the same. This class is a complete continuance from Vol.2 & 3 of Canadian Scrapbooker Basics Series. Can't wait to see your masterpieces. Keep in mind there will be NO KITS available for this class, as it is exclusively hands on.

I am bringing all the different colour palettes so you will hae a great selection of colours.

Don't forget that in our classes we are giving so much extra product to play with. We want to make sure that you leave with an abundance of fabulous products!

My second optional class is really just playing with more patterned paper in one sitting than anyone knows what to do with. Come one, let's get those pages done, kicking it a little Leica style. Combining colours, different patterns, go crazy or stay in your comfort zone. I am all about YOU loving your page!!!! Create your own twists on my design.

Layouts, layouts, fabulous layouts!
Join our mission to create beautiful layouts, catch up with scrapbooking our favourite photos and learning new techniques! Do you have trouble wondering where to start when creating a layout, how to combine different patterned papers, or maybe you are looking for a new way to include multiple photos on one page? In this class, we will create 3 layouts in all skill levels. We will work with "negative" space, patterned paper layering, and a layout that has neat techniques with multiple photos. Just think... 3 beautiful completed layouts!!

I just received this week the gorgeous Daisy Bucket "Loves Me" line that we will be using to make a double page layout and Rose Moka sent me their papers to create a single page (however, I have a secret... There is soooooo much extra paper in this class that I designed more pages if you don't want the fun to end! tee hee. )for the same class too. So this week I am going to have so much fun preparing the kits!!!! So come play with me in this class as we dabble with stamps, ink, magic mesh, ribbon, buttons, LOT's of patterned papers, cardstock and flowers.

Keep in mind, that sign up for the classes is coming to an end soon. So if you want to take any extra classes make sure you don't leave it too long, because we are all busy cutting and kitting. Pinch me--am I dreaming?

Hey Everybody! Deanna from Beautiful BC checking in!

Hope everyone is getting as excited as me--I can't believe we are all heading out so soon--am I dreaming?? A mid-winter SCRAPBOOKING break in the Caribbean--are you sure I'm not dreaming?

We've all been super busy putting all the final touches and details together--products to be shipped, kits to be made, and most importantly FUN to be had! You will not believe what is in store for you on this cruise!!

By now, most of you should have received your "welcome" package--this is where you will find tons of answers to all those little questions you've been thinking about. I've been studying my cruise ship map so I won't get lost and I have my "NCL" tattoo ready to wear! My husband will be joining me (yippee) and our next course of action is getting our excursions planned. Between all the scrapbooking and sightseeing, we're all going to need a vacation by the time we get home!

So let's talk SCRAPBOOKING! In your package you will find your supply lists which will cover everything you will need for your classes. Remember to pack light as we are sending you home with a bunch of goodies! You'll also find your Itinerary with your class times and crop nights--yippee--is it feeling real now??

I'll be teaching a couple of classes with you on board. My feature class will be a two page layout with my amazing sponsor MAKING MEMORIES! You will not believe all of the product you will get in this class and how much you will have leftover to create more layouts, cards and treasures! They have been extremely generous and you guys will all be thrilled. We will be using their new "Poolside Paperie" and it is yummy!! The layout I have designed specifically for the cruise is called "Paradise Found" and it will be perfect for all of those great Caribbean pictures you will be taking. This double page layout is designed to showcase 10 of your fav photos of Paradise--from 2x2 up to 5x7's! Here's a little sneak peek--don't want to give too much away:)

The other exciting news is that Making Memories has given me TWO SLICE machines to bring on board for YOU to use!!! I'll be demoing them during the crops and you'll be able to use them to put those finishing touches on all of your layouts! How cool is that--a personal digitial diecut machine to create your titles, shapes and extras! I LOVE my SLICE and if you've never tried it before, get ready to fall in love! It's the best thing since sliced bread--hahaha, sorry corny joke:)

Next up, I'll be teaching one optional class on the Thursday at sea. This is a 12x12 canvas class and will be an amazing souvenir of your cruise. If you've never tried a canvas class before, this is a must! But be forewarned--they are addicting (and super fun and easy!) All materials, including the 12x12 canvas, will be provided in this class and you will be able to add in some of those "special" seashells you collect on the beach too! Take a little piece of heaven home with you;)

2 weeks and counting!

Hey everyone!

Trisha here again... just thought I would pop in to say "hi":) It is soooooooo hard to believe that in 2 short weeks we will all be in Miami getting ready to board the Norwegian Dawn for a week of Fun in the Sun while visiting all of those beautiful islands!!! Paradise awaits us... it'll be pure bliss I am sure:)

I know that we have a been busy co-ordinating the shipments of product that has been generously donated by all of our sponsors to make your Crop and Cruise experience truly spectacular! Thank goodness we can have a lot of the stuff shipped directly to the boat as I don't know how we would ever get it all there otherwise.

We have aso had a few last minute sponsors jump on board too! I know that I personally have worked with Quick Quotes, Acme United (Westcott) and Serif this past week or so to secure some more goodies for you lucky gals:) The list of amazing companies continues to grow and we are so very thankful to everyone that is participating!!!! Imagine this... 4 ladies at the end of CHA trying to fit excessive luggage and ourselves into a PT Cruiser and praying not only that it fits, but also that we are not over our luggage allowance for our flights back home!! I had to sit with my legs up (suitcase under my feet) and my last bag on top of me as I squished into the little spot beside my new friend Nancy!! Believe it or not, we were within a few pounds on all our boxes and bags so we made it without extra charges!! What they didn't know is that my "purse-like-tote-bag-carry-on" weighed about 30 pounds!! Perhaps they thought such a little person wouldn't be able to carry that much still with a smile on my face!!

So... the moral of the story? There are several!

First of all, know what your airline's luggage restrictions are before leaving!! Unfortunately, many airlines have recently changed their policy on checked luggage and are now charging a fee for EVERY piece!! Here are the websites for most airlines for easy checking!

Second, it might be wise to have along a hard copy of the luggage allowance to show at check-in. Last year, the attendees were unfamiliar with my husband's "Elite" status and weren't going to allow us our full limit. They ended up checking online, but from now on, we always have a hard copy.

Third, pack lightly with only the essentials and share when possible. If you are staying with friends, perhaps only one of you brings a straightening iron or Crop-o-dile or even a suitcase! You will notice in your package of information, that you really do not need to bring along much for scrapbooking as we are providing so much and more sponsors are still coming on board! As much as we think you will love all the stuff you are getting, we're trying hard to help you avoid paying extra on the way home!

Hi Cruise gals... Trisha here checking in (finally!)

I am back from CHA and now focusing like mad on all of the fun things we have in store for you on the Crop and Cruise which is only a couple of weeks away!!!!!!! OMG! Doesn't that seem crazy? It was only one short year ago that we were looking at applying to become a part of Allison's Dream Team and here we are, only a couple of weeks from setting sail aboard this ultimate adventure! Can I tell you how excited I am to be a part of this event?! Seriously... I am like a giddy little school girl!

So as many of you know, I was one of the lucky gals at CHA last week in Anaheim. I had the honour and privilege of not only working for some of our Cruise sponsors but getting to know many of the companies/ people coming with us.

Here is a pic of Allison with Nancy (Scrapbook Pantry) and Christy (Monday Night Class) at our Crazy Canuck Night at CHA. We laughed till it hurt!!!

Paris Hilton Scrapbooking!

The topic of great debate... does Paris Hilton actually scrapbook?

I admittedly had my doubts, but after getting to video, photograph and chat briefly with Paris while she was signing autographs yesterday at CHA, I can honestly say, I think Paris Hilton scrapbooks!

Clue #1 - She had her personal "idea" book with her where she collects all the inspirational items she finds during her world travels! And yes, it had a lot of BLING!

Clue #2 - One time when she had run out of gas and was waiting for her friend to get back to the vehicle, TMZ came across her sitting in the car scrapbooking!

You can read and see a bit more on my blog, but I actually do think she is a scrapbooker. But no, she is not sponsoring our Crop and Cruise!

One more day to check out all the fabulous companies and then I'm heading home where I will have more time to post more photos, etc. All I know is that I have been checking out some of the products that will be on the cruise and you will not be disappointed! Woo Hoo!

This new, garage-based business is just starting up in Manitoba and is slowing making its way West. I won't say that much about the actual products -- images speak for themselves. CHA in Anaheim!

I'm sitting on my bed in a hotel room in Anaheim ready to experience my first ever CHA (Craft and Hobby Association) where everybody new and old in the industry comes together to showcase their new releases, designs and goodies!

One of the main things on my hit list is to visit our Crop and Cruise sponsors and check out first hand some of the supplies we are going to get to play with on board! I'm also seeing how many extras I can collect to pass on to you! (Wish me luck!) And Trisha Ladouceur will also be here teaching and showcasing a variety of great companies so we'll be partying here together!

Naturally I have my camera and video camera with me and hope to capture the visuals for you as well so be sure to stay posted!

Isn't this getting exciting? We are so very busy finalizing the details for the cruise and it's hard to stay focussed on the task as the blue waters of the Caribbean are calling my name! Someone asked me recently what islands we are going to and the only response I could think of was... "HOT ONES!"

Good news! We now only have

2 spots left!!!

We can take more non-scrapbookers along, but our Croppers of the Caribbean package is close to sold out so be sure to register soon if you're still considering coming along! NOTE: Balcony cabins are now SOLD OUT so we are left with only inside, ocean view and mini-suites.

Meanwhile, we LOVE that people are starting to use this blog to communicate and please don't hesitate to leave comments or ask questions!

things to do on our ship

okay does that look like fun or what??? Above is a view of some of the hot tubs. There is 6 public hot tubs on our ship. I'll tell you a secret, one night it was actually quite brisk and windy, and about 11pm Jim and I snuck off to sit in the hot tub. It was soooooo awesome. hot hot water, with the wind on our faces. watching the lights reflect off of the waves. yummo! But keep in mind the hours of operation, we did get in trouble. oops!
or maybe you'd like to do a little reading, they have a very resourceful library.
would you like to partake in Sunday service? They have a chapel on board. very gorgeous with a wall of windows.
or maybe you'd like to do some sports outside. This is lot's of fun. last year the ship even had huge chess pieces and shuffle board on the deck. Jim & I LOVED playing shuffle board at night, it was so cool, (it did feel a little like a premonition of how we might be still competitive when we are older,) but it was fun!!
or maybe a spin class is what you'd like. They have a huge fitness area, new equipment. check it out! they even have an outdoor track to take a walk/run.
This is the lap pool that is indoors, in the fitness area. Totally just for doing laps and fitness stuff. The lounging pool is on the top deck.
There are like 13 different places to eat on the ship. I dare you to try them all, you really don't have enough time! And it is really unique how they work. There is a handful of restaurants that are totally FREE, except for any liquor you would like. But then there are some that have a cover charge. For example, Jill, Heather, Jim & I went to Cagney's steakhouse (fantastic steak & lobster!!!!!!) and they had a "cover charge". So how this worked was you phone early in the week and book a sitting time, then you still get to choose absolutely anything off the menu, but you only pay the cover charge. So I had the steak & lobster, an appetizer,salad and dessert and I only paid the cover charge. It just gets billed to your room. So consider trying one of the fancier places. They are really worth it, and usually less people, and more intimate atmosphere. There are a lot of specialty restaurants too, like, sushi,asian, salsa, teppanyaki, italian, steak,and more. If you choose to never try the cover charge restaurants, there are still quite a few totally free choices, which are superior food too! And you know the coolest thing, you get to order an appetizer, salad/soup, bread course, main course, and dessert is all inclusive in every restaurant. granted the buffet one you choose anyways. But if you decided one night you wanted to try the creme brulee and cake, you can order both. wow! some girls did last year. I didn't as I didn't know they did this till the last day. Now you are probably thinking why on earth would you order 2 dishes. well this is why, either you are super hungry (just kidding) or you want to try something new. They DON'T serve the ssame desserts twice! They have so many new choices all the time, same with the appetizers, salads, every night, every restaurant is a new meal menu. So you will eat very luxuriously! And my husband is super picky about what he eats, and half the time he didn't even understand the menu, I felt like a translator. but he DID NOT ever get something he didn't like, and he tried new things. I was so proud of him!

Here is the spinnaker lounge, last year they had bingo during the day for everyone, but at nightime, children are NOT allowed. But they have different things every night, fun music to dance to, live bands, hypnotists, comedians and sometimes they play CRAZY adult games. No I did not partake in any, I am not sure if I know how to take my bra off without removing my shirt anymore...I am a mother you know.LOL! but it definitely will make you laugh harder than you have ever laughed in your life if they play these games again! The games were hilarious, and lot's f different ones. And Jim discovered this while I was in a class; but the next day they play a video of the night before that you can watch in your own room. They video tape the performances.
the outside bar was nice, caus eyou could just sit by the pool and have beverages of any kind, we sat with Jill & Heather as we were leaving the port, it was the best!!!!! So neat to watch us pull away from the dock.
oh and room service at absolutely ANY time of the day (24hours!!!!)was great. at no cost! free!!!!unless you ordered liquor. but we ordered breakfast in bed a few times, ate it onour balcony. Jim even ordered pizza in the middle of the night and said it was great.

maybe even test your luck in the casino. I do have to admit that my husband enjoyed himself one day here while I was teaching. He said it was GREAT! However, when I tried my hand at it one night, I was one of the kind people that felt I should donate my money to the ship...LOL! I wonder if they will issue a tax receipt...hmmm? just kidding. but I do admit it was fun if you like that kind of thing.
Oh and there is an internet cafe that you can purchase minutes and keep in touch with your family. (or blog like I did!I know I am highly addicted, but I wanted to share the awesome time we were having!!!)

So what else to do on the ship? Maybe Allison or Jill will post some things that they did last year. I know that we didn't get to do half the things cause you run out of time!!!!

Shore Excursions

So have you explored the shore excursions at the different ports? Well there is literally over a hundred choices between the 4 stops. I don't know how a person is to choose. The coolest thing is that NCL really goes the distance for these adventures, they are fabulous, well planned and safe. They offer so many different types of day excursions from shopping, site seeing, snorkeling, scuba diving, catamaran rides, speed boat rides, hiking, lounging at the beach, sailing, wow, this list goes on and on. I thought about showing you guys pictures for most of these events, BUT NCL has made most of them into little videos to watch to learn about, which is even better!!!!! So I am putting a few photos up for teasers but I really insist that you go and click on the links at the end of this post and watch some videos, they are really well done.

So the thing I would advise to you is this, really read the labels. Each excursion is classified in numbers and letters. They tell you LOT'S about the day. Whether it is age or weight restrictions, difficulty of physical exercise. All of these are things that you will want to know before embarking. So just make sure to read them through.

When it comes to the actual booking you can do it before hand, but if you don't decide now, you are able to book them ON the ship. They are extremely helpful.

So who's in for some adventures??? maybe we could take Allison's photo class WHILE parasailing, imagine the photo ops! just kidding. But I did Parasail in Cabo San Lucas last year while pregnant, and I will tell you iot was one of the BEST things I have ever done in my life, AND I felt incredibly safe the entire time. So have fun in choosing your adventures.

cool photos of our ship- NCL DAWN

this is such a neat picture of the pool. Last year when we were in the pool, even though there were 3400 people on the ship, it never seemed like you were bumping elbows with people, that was nice!Sometimes at certain hours, no body was ever in it. There is just so many things to do on the ship.

Here is a photo of one of the restaurants. The food was sooooo yummy, I totally recommend the vanilla or chocolate creme brulee!!!!
If you are bringing your kids, this is their private pool. wowsa!
I definitely recommend finding out what the performances are, the Stardust theatre was so much fun! new shows EVERY night!!!!
